By adding extra natural conditioning agents (alma and centella), we can separate the red & black pigment release to make a mahogany-wood hue. Once mixed, the two strong colors are resisted just enough by the added conditioners to bind at slightly different rates. How To Apply
1 packet (3.5 oz/100g) will dye hair to shoulder.
3 packets (10.5 oz/300g) will dye hair to waist.
Note: hair thickness and type (straight, curly, etc) will make a difference.

1. MIX & PREPARE
- Use quart size mixing bowl per full packet (3.5 oz/100 g) and a spoon to mix.
- Cover any surfaces that may stain: untreated wood, carpet, fabric, etc.
- Pour powder into bowl. One packet colors/treats straight, shoulder length hair.
- Add hot tap water (approx 120º F) gradually to the powder.
- Add little water at a time to get an applicable paste consistency.
(thick pudding or cake batter). - Prepare hair for color or treatment. Divide hair into four sections:
front, left, right, back.
2. APPLY COLOR OR TREATMENT
- Apply directly to towel-dried hair using gloved hand or hair dye brush.
- Using gloved hand, scoop and apply the paste on back section (if crumbly, add water).
- From scalp and root of hair, work evenly to top of hair. Try for complete, even coverage.
- Methodically apply from back to front section. Take your time. Massage well into hair.
- Work all hennaed hair into a mound on top of head. Touch-up along all hair lines.
- When done, cover head with included plastic cap. Leave on for one to two hours.
- Note: Treatments peak after one hour. Colors deepen up to two hours.
3. RINSE & CONDITION
- Rinse out thoroughly (no shampoo) until all product removed. Then use conditioner.
- Note: Paste rinse-out may take a little time. Conditioner will help removal of dried paste.
- Blow dry hair for 10-15 minutes to accelerate natural color-changing process.
- Remember: It’s 100% natural. No added perfumes. Earthy scent will fade after rinsing.
Avoid shampooing for 24 hours. Avoid leave-in oil-based conditioners for first week. Henna-based dyes will take up to 48 hours to express true colors and undertones. Undertones can range from light red to green to blue before fully maturing—very normal (most blend within hours). You can reapply as often as you like. It’s all natural, safe, and gentle to hair, scalp, and skin.

I don´t know if I’m allergic to something in this color but I have used it twice and it makes me feel terrible. It leaves me with a headache, exhausted, and dizzy. I will not be using this anymore. I have used other colors and they do not make me feel this way.

I have fine, curly, medium/dark blonde hair, and I have used this product twice now. The results on my hair are Auburn, not a dark shade at all. I added a bit of Amla because I have curly hair. It’s a beautiful color, but it’s certainly not dark like the picture

I have been using henna color lab for years now. I normally use the medium brown, sometimes dark brown. In my Christmas sale order, I decided to try the mahogany. I was a little worried it may be too dark. My husband applies my color for me, so that is a plus. I had him add two tablespoons of Alma to half a bag of the mahogany, which is enough for my just below the shoulder length curls. Any way, this color turned out beautifully!! I like it so much I am returning the two medium browns for the mahogany. It looks like the description: is it black? is it brown? is it red? Yes! This is by far my favorite color and my hair feels great as usual after whole head coloring. Again, love it and my curls look so great!! Thanks.

Don’t be afraid to mix colors. I had been mixing 2 part Auburn with one part Wine Red henna for well over a year now. I decided to tone it down a bit so yesterday I mixed equal parts Mahogany, Auburn and Wine Red. The color is amazing and just what I wanted. It’s a rich brown with tons of red highlights. Reminds me of chocolate/cherry. Experiment and have fun! I have been using Henna Color Lab for 6 years and my hair has never been better or stronger.

I have brown hair, medium brown, medium thickness, about 3-4 inches past my shoulder. I used like a 1:1 ratio of water to mix, definitely like pudding. Directions worked. I didn’t use all of the mix. I measured out and then used the same amount of water. My hair results definitely match the color strand test, I used the hair from my brush. it’s helpful if you take a pic or get two clumps of hair, so that you can really see a difference. I used the Mahogany. It def came out like the girl in the pic. This was my first time using henna. I love it! it smells terrible and it is really messy, but I’ll def use it again.

I’m not sure which I love more, the Wine Red or the Mahogany. The latter is a super close match to my natural color and I feel like it makes me look younger. I love that the product gets out of your skin and your clothes really easily. If I don’t get a haircut soon, the next time I use henna I will DEFINITELY need two packets, but I was just able to get away with one because of my super thirsty, thick, long, curly hair. I will definitely ONLY be using your products from now on!

Love this color! I have used Henna Color Lab’s medium brown, auburn, dark brown, & wine red, but this color wins! With all the other colors, I was able to get away with only using one pack for my entire head, but with this color- my hair literally soaked it up like a sponge and I needed 2 whole packs. My hair loved whatever the herbs are in this color because my hair has never been so shiny! I just ordered 5 more packs! It’s so pretty!!!

I don’t normally – ever – leave reviews, but out of all the Henna I’ve experimented with, this was by far the best and most effective, good quality product I’ve ever used. I have medium brown hair with sun-lightened highlights that are kind of brassy. I used the mahogany hair dye and it turned my hair nearly black with a deep red undertone. It’s really nice. It also feels really good, soft and voluminous. Last time I used pure henna from a different brand my hair was really dry for awhile.
I’ve had bad luck with henna products before, my hair just doesn’t absorb the dye, even if I leave it in overnight. I left the mahogany dye in for way longer than recommended, 6 hours, and it worked well for me.

I love this product! When I use regular hair dye it burns my scalp and I was looking for a natural dye because I’m pregnant. This stuff is amazing! I love the color it gave me! I had roots that had grown out from previously dying my hair and it completely covered it and evened it out! Every time I look in the mirror, I’m impressed! I will never use regular hair dye again!

Plus side, this stuff does make your hair shine and silky. Also covered my grays. Down side, this stuff smells like no other and my hair legit smelled gross for a week after! The messiness of it, just clumped like mud and got all over the place. Gonna go back to the Naturtint brand I was using. No ammonia and more of a burgundy tone I like to go for. I returned my second packet I bought in exchange for the pumpkin face mask. Looking forward to trying that!

My sister gifted this to me as she uses it and wanted me to try it. It is messy, and I didn’t mind the smell so much, even the wait, but my grey roots were green after the first try. Mind you I didn’t realize my hair should’ve been wet, “towel dried” before applying. Thankfully she ordered 2 packs for me so I was able to re-do just my hairline roots again. It again was greenish blue, however now it’s settled into mostly a rich red/purple color, with kinda dark grey roots. Better than what I had…. I do like that it wasn’t stinky, staining chemicals and my hair does feel softer. I will try it again when my roots grow out as now I have left over from the second pack.

This stuff is amazing!!! I was a little worried because 90% of my hair was already this color from a chemical dye and the other 10% was my natural blonde roots. In the past with chemical dye this has caused my roots to be much brighter than the rest of my hair. I went for it anyway and everything blended perfectly. My hair is also soft and shiny and less frizzy!

I have been using Henna Lab Company for a while and I love the products. I’m in my late 40’s with short natural 4C hair. I have some graying sprinkled through out and I was looking for some color, not too bright but not all black. I was bouncing around between colors, first I tried Wine Red and it turned out really bright orange, way too much for me. The next color I tried was Auburn, which I liked but I noticed that as the colored faded it began to lighten to a dull orange. So I decided to go a little darker and I tried Mahogany, I honestly can say that this is the perfect color for me. It turned out to be a beautiful deep brown with dark red undertones, similar to a dark cherry color. The color fades and blends very well over time. If you are looking for a deep rich color, I would highly recommend Mahogany Henna Hair Dye. LOVE IT !!

I love this product. I have never used henna before or dyed my hair, but started getting a few too many greys and wanted a natural product. I mixed the dark brown with mahogany and love the colour. It was a bit messy and i did it myself which was a challenge but wasn’t as hard as I expected. I did start at the crown and worked out though which I found easy. My greys did go s dark red but nothing too extreme and next time they should go the same colour. It did take two days for the colour to develop as the first day I thought it was too dark and too red…but by day three i loved it. I’m in Australia and the postage was fairly quick. I got it in under two weeks. I am happy with the product and service and would recommend anyone who wants to find an alternative to chemical dyes to try this henna..it’s simple no waiting for the mix to develop and the colors do really match the description and pictures. I am a long time henna user, but this was my first time with this brand. The first application came out as dark brown-cherry, which looked great, but my white hair around forehead turned dark orange. I reapplied a small amount the next day on those orange areas only and now it looks perfect. Deep brown almost black with cherry tones. I love the shine and color. The smell is fine; not stong at all. I have had used hennas with increadibly strong smells before. Also I prepared henna with hot brewed black tea and let it sit overnight. I applied it on my hair the next morning. I also left it on a little longer than instructed, around 3 hours. I hope this color lasts a while.

Henna Color Lab has saved my life! i was a frequent user of regular hair dye, before i developed a deadly allergy to PPD. i have been hospitalized several times with anaphylactic shock. luckily, i do have a nice natural color hair, dark brown with some natural red highlights. unfortunately, i am only 26 but have greys coming in. i have tried so called “natural” hair dyes, but contain PPD substitutes that have also put me in the hospital. i was spending 15 minutes a day plucking grey hairs out of my head thinking i did not know what i was going to do when i had too many to keep up with plucking. i discovered HCL thank god! i mixed black with dark brown and mahogany to get a beautiful dark brown almost black color. i only added mahogany because the dark brown was pulling green tones on my test hair sample, i did not want to add red to my hair but red cancels out green. i am so happy that i have found a solution, especially for when the greys start coming in faster! only downside was the application itself. its quite messy, which i knew, but it also comes right off as long as you get it quickly enough with soap and water. it did not stain my skin the way chemical dyes do. a few days later my hair still smells a little “earthy” but i don’t really mind it. i suggest taking the full two hours to apply, which is not fun, but worth it. i wish i left it on a little longer even do have a little bit of a deeper color. but overall i am so thrilled and cannot thank HCL enough! don’t know what i would do without it!

WHAT THE….HEY!
First of all I want to say that I’ve seldom dealt with an online company that ships as fast as this one. This is my second order with Henna Color Lab. My first was December 24, 2015. I received my products on December 27, 2015. If it wasn’t during the holidays I probably would’ve gotten my items on the 26th. I placed my second on September 2, 2016 at 2:15pm and the products arrived on September 6, 2016 at 2:45pm. WHAT, WHAT?! Yup, these folks are that fast.
The color that I chose both times was the Mahogany. My hair is soft black with 10% gray. I had to do 2 piggy backed applications to cover the gray using 2 packets of color because I have curly/kinky/coily hair. The 3rd application I did a henna gloss in the back of my head and a full treatment on the front where the grey resides. My grey turned a light-medium burgundy shade. It’s cute. Overall, after the color settles and a few co-washes are done the color changes from almost black with some burgundy highlights to a nice dark brown with burgundy red tones. It becomes Mahogany. Different textures and colors of hair will experience different results on the first or second application. My hair IS NOT the shade of the model’s nor did I want it to be. It is subtle with a punch of color which is EXACTLY what I wanted. In the sunlight it’s glorious.

Love this product; still waiting on final color result as this is the first day. I’ve used various henna products for the past 15 years and can tell you this one is the best so far! One packet was enough for my medium thick hair below my shoulders. I have some graying, in strands, not clumps so it’s easy to cover – right now they are a coppery red color. I have to say also that the smell is not bad, especially compared to other “real” hennas – so if you’re a henna user, this won’t be an issue plus after rinsing and using a conditioner I can’t smell anything. I found the mix excellent as well – very smooth. Mixed with hot water to a brownie batter like texture – stirring well, no clumps. my only complaint is the gloves are awful, huge and will fall off your hands as you’re applying. My suggestion is to get “medical” gloves that fit tight – this was the only issue I had. The application itself was not difficult, I covered with plastic cap provided then with a terry turban – left on for 2 hrs and voila – soft, silky amazing textured hair, no gray. I was expecting a darker color – more “black cherry” but being it’s still the first day it may darken (I hope) – other than that – EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCT!! WILL BE USING AGAIN AND AGAIN.

Best color to cover grey hair! I am turning 40 this year and being a mom of two little ones (5 and 2) i wanted to keep coloring my hair so i do not look like their grandmother!! (i have alot of grey hair, more so than my mother-in-law). In the past i was coloring with the boxed hair color but noticed it was damaging my hair and the smell was starting to bother me, so i was time for a change. I tried the dark brown at first and was happy with this color but noticed it faded quite quickly and also it did not always cover up the grey. After reading alot of the reviews for the mahogany color i decided to try this color. I so wish i had started off with this color. After my first application i was sooooo impressed! Did two applications just becuase i wanted to achive a much darker shade on the grey and the color came out just like i thought it would. I would recommend to anyone who has premature grey to use this color as it worked for me perfectly. One thing i would ask Henna Lab is to find a way to tone down the smell of the henna hair dye. The smell is very strong and even my 5 year old has commented on this……wont disclose what she said but i agree : ) Could Henna Lab possibly have a fragrance free hair dye for those who like the ‘natural smell’ and one for those who do not like the ‘natural smell’? Just a thought! Thank you for making this product and caring about the environment : )

I have absolutely fallen in love with this color over the last year. This has been the first natural color brand I have tried and I don’t think I will ever look fo another one(hopefully!) It is true that the color doesn’t stick long the first couple of applications but it faded into a color that was still very lovely. I use a clove and espresso shampoo bar and it seems to help keep the colot darker longer. This last time I used it I tried using honey instead of conditioner and oh my gods this was the best idea I have had in a while! Besides using coffee instead of water to mix it up 🙂 also a few drops of essential oils(coffee and clove for me) helped take the edge off the “strong” aroma.

I was so excited to use this product, but was afraid that it would not show up on my dark hair. And that was for the most part the case, unfortunately. I don’t know if my hair (never dyed before, very healthy), just doesn’t hold color well, or if my hair was just too dark for this color—I naturally have very dark brown hair. A difference could only be seen when examining my hair very closely and it was still barely visible. I did like when I could see the hints of indigo though. Now, the indigo is not visible at all. The red tint is visible upon close inspection in the light, but only enough that I can notice, no one else.
My friend helped me with the application so it wasn’t too bad! It was messy, but not as bad as I was expecting. If I had done it alone though, I don’t think I could have thoroughly covered my hair (I have a LOT of hair!). Make sure to mix in a bowl that will resist stains, or one you don’t care about!
My only other complaint is that I did this in mid-December and until a few weeks ago, my hair was still dripping out a faint yellowish color every time I washed (even washing with sulfate-free shampoo). Not really a problem, but it goes to show that the color didn’t stick well in my hair.
If I try again I may mix this with the wine red, or try the wine red alone. I’d also try the pre-henna treatment that they offer! If I could get this color to actually show up I would be thrilled!

I’ve been hennaing my dark brown hair for the past decade with baq henna (Yemen was my favorite but is now hard to come by) to achieve a rich, plummy red. Now that I have more stuborn greys, I was looking for a henna that wouldn’t leave them bright orange. I was very intimidated to try an indigo mix on my own, so I was overjoyed when I saw this mahogany blend! It’s PERFECT! It shines henna red outdoors, but in natural light it is the delicious, dark plum I love!
To me, henna smells like tea. This smells way more strongly of earth…almost like compost. It’s still way better than the smell of commercial dyes, though.
Rinsing it out (with lots of conditioner), my bathtub looked like a swamp. Do not be afraid of the green water, people! LOL! The resulting color is a beautiful dark, rich, plummy brown with red undertones! I promise!
My hair FEELS amazing, too! The herbal blend conditioned my hair beautifully. I used a diffuser on my waist length curls and they were springy and well formed with little frizz. I wish I could post a picture!

The colour was lovely on my hair very dark black, brown, red. The only reason I gave this a 4 is like another reviewer mentioned is the mess. I have hennaed with other products as well, but I’ve never had the mess I had with this. Huge chunks would fall off, and I had the proper pancake consistency. It could be due to the amount of indigo in it I’ve heard that can be more messy, but I was worried I wouldn’t have enough on my head to colour my hair. However like I said the colour was lovely. I wouldn’t order this again due to the chunks falling off instead I order the auburn now, but this is a lovely colour.

Holy mother of pearls!!! This stuff stinks like horse shizz… Why has no one mentioned this yet? Being a henna user of 3 years, I’m aware of the strong aromas of henna mixtures. But this was rank!!
However, it’s a little more tolerable if you mix in nutmeg and cinnamon (large amounts) with this henna. Also, the smell does fade away when the henna Is washed out. (I used a rosemary tea rinse after washing my hair out.)
Perfect color! Matches the picture shown for this hair dye. I will continue to use this, despite the nauseating smell!

I’m very sad to have to give a negative rating, because I absolutely LOVED the color (the first couple days after coloring, and not washing), and the texture and shine was outstanding. I was also super stoked to find a NATURAL dye in a lovely shade.
The effort, mess, odor and lengthy coloring time would’ve well worth it for a color that was even SEMI-permanent (as in the typical 28 washes). I followed the directions exactly, on virgin hair with a few greys. This was supposed to be a PERMANENT dye, and the color faded rapidly in the course of one week, and appeared to be gone completely by week 2.
I’d read that it can take a couple doses for the natural color to take, so I spent $ on another round. Sadly, exactly the same results. Gorgeous color and shine for a few wonderful days, half-strength color in a week, and not even noticeable (except for vaguely yellowed greys) in a couple weeks. So bummed….

I have been using HCL Henna for almost 2 years and will ALWAYS be a customer. I used chemical dyes for many years as my hair grayed early in my life. I will never go back. Henna has thickened, nourished, fixed my most of my split ends and makes my hair glimmer in the sun. I have to henna my roots every 2 weeks and my hair LOVES it. I use Dark Brown on my roots with 2 applications to cover the gray and add Mahogany over my whole head for the 3rd application. Lifelong customer here so don’t ever go out of business HCL!!!!

Have to say that the colour itself I do like, and the only reason I’m giving this 4 stars is due to the consistency. I had hennaed before with a different brand, and didn’t have near the mess I have had with this one. I mixed the mahogany to the consistency of a pancake batter in the bowel it looked smooth and creamy that was until I applied it. As I was trying to apply it huge clumps of henna was falling off my head so much so that I was not sure I had enough on to even colour my hair. The colour turned out nice, and very shiny. I will order again, but be warned very messy.

I hennaed my hair as a teen. I should have kept at it but boxed color seems simple enough and quicker. I suffered for four months with a strange rash on my body and an incredible itchy flaky scalp. I finally went to an allergist and I am allergic to PPD in hair coloring (so much for the box saying its gentle) and also in dark clothing dye. Day two of steroids, half my hair came out in the shower and the brush. Henna Color Lab to the rescue with the coloring. I mix two parts Mahogany and one part Red Wine. My hair is growing back and it just glows! I tried to get this color for years with boxed color and it never quite was right and it faded too quickly. The doctor told me to henna my hair all I want because it is GOOD for my hair and scalp. I also HIGHLY recommend Henna Color Labs shampoo and conditioner. You cannot find one shampoo or body wash on the shelves that do not have Sodium Laureth Sulfate in them, which actually stunts hair growth. Thank you again, Henna Color Lab. I did some research and decided to order the mahogany henna dye and the trial size lavender and geranium shampoo and conditioner. I must say, I am glad I got the 4 pack dye and I will be purchasing larger shampoo and conditioner!! My hair came out absolutely beautiful!! I cannot sing your praises enough!!

The color is magnificent! I give it a day to mature and away I go. Hands down, my favorite henna color and my favorite spot to get it. No other mahogany henna compares (and I’ve tried a lot).

This color was amazing! It took a couple of days to really darken into a rich mahogany, but once it did the color was stellar. It does fade in a red hue (I’m blonde) so be prepared for that!

My hair color is a natural dark brunette, nearly black, and has never been dyed or chemically treated. I mixed this mahogany color with the wine red, hoping for red undertones. I am very happy with how it’s turned out. The naturally light brown/blonde highlights that my hair had are now reddish, but still looks very natural. I’ve had friends say that my hair is now more of a dark auburn color and that it warms up my skin tone.
The color was frighteningly red the first few days after coloring but definitely changed to more natural looking and more brown after a week. I LOVE how shiny and soft it’s made my hair as well. The winter frizz is less, and it’s been 4 weeks since I’ve dyed it and it’s still so shiny! I plan on keeping this up and to keep using this brand.

I had blonde hair, && when I dyed it, it was a GORGEOUS color, && my peers were always sayinghow pretty it was && that it made them jealous. But when it started to fade, my friends noticed a strange green undertone to my hair ALL the time. Not only under inside lighting, but outside in natural lighting also. I’m not sure if it’s only my hair type that does this, but it happened. Other than that it’s a beautiful color. But I won’t get it again because of the undertones as it faded that have lasted for several months. (It also fixed ALL my split ends!)

I’m not here to complain about your product at all, in fact I love it! It turned my hair the perfect shade of black-red-brown! I have naturally medium brown curly hair and I’ve gotten highlights a few times in the past, I always wanted to go lighter. But then I realized, it’s the darker color I was looking for. I wanted to go back to my natural color but then I said- to hell with it- and chose the Mahogany hair dye. It turned out absolutely wonderful! I’m mixed (black white and Persian) so my hair is curly but not nappy curly, and it just looks so great now when I wear it down! Sure it smelt a little weird at first (I knew this would happen) and it was a pain to clean my bathroom at first, but it was all worth it. I love how my hair is a lot smoother and softer now. Thank you, for making me feel more confident about my hair, I will most definitely be ordering from you all again soon!

I am a fellow Curly Girl, 30 yrs & getting a few grays. I am a ‘snowwhite.’ I wanted a nice color w/o looking like death & the dryness from chemicals. As a first timer, I ordered 1 packet thinking this would be enough for my middle of the neck length curly hair. I started at the bottom, not the top. My hair is thicker than I thought. It’s thick like mud & not as easy to spread as regular boxed dyes. This isn’t a bad thing, I was just surprised. I am ordering another packet to do the top of my head. I didn’t have enough to add to the top. I was scraping the bowl at the end. The bottom half has the most & I love the color. Otherwise, as a first timer I love the service. Excellent quality & most important they don’t test on animals! I haven’t had to deal with customer service yet, but I haven’t needed too either. The only thing I would change are the gloves. As I applied the dye it flew everywhere. I will be using latex gloves this next time.

I’ve been using henna and indigo mixes for years, and this is the best henna mix I’ve used! I’m over 45 and it makes my hair look like a teenager’s. Beyond the natural-looking color, the mix also coats my individual hair shafts and strengthens and straightens them. I can wear my hair several inches past my shoulders now, and it looks shiny and GREAT! Really messy to apply, but all henna is like that 🙂 It’s worth it.

Love this color it looks dark brown with a hint of red. It has made my hair much thicker and soft i will never go back to normal hair dye
